Season Recap: Season waltz through the life of Pablo Escobar, giving its audience a detailed insight into how it all was when he first started manufacturing cocaine in July 1992. The show basically outlines the many events that took place in Columbia and how Escobar was actually related to them.
The show takes the perspective of DEA Agent Murphy, who was then based and working in Columbia. It walks through the timeline, starting from how Escobar gets involved in the cocaine trade in Columbia, to what finally happens in the end.
There was a time when illegal goods’ trade-in Columbia was strictly forbidden. Meaning, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, and other things of such sorts weren’t very welcome, and lawfully chargeable.
But Escobar got involved in these dealings and went on to become an established black marketer even. He started selling illegal goods undercover, in the means of a truck while exporting his own between cities, which was strictly forbidden then.
It was when he met Mateo “Cockroach” Manero, one who was exiled from Chile and was an undercover chemist, who asked him if he’d be interested to do business together. So basically, Mateo produced cocaine, and Escobar distributed it starting a heavily profitable business altogether of cocaine.
They started to expand their business as if it knew no bounds. From a small little hellhole of a lab, they expand it to something much huger and bigger in the rainforests. All with the help of Carlos Lehder’s expertise and experience, who was primarily also responsible for transporting their drugs. He transports them to Miami in bulk, thus contributing immensely in growing their business; as there it gets popular among the affluent, A-class people.
Pablo eventually arranges for larger lab constructions and development and expands the whole cocaine business into the United States to shoot up the demand for the drug. As cocaine started to rise to more and more prominence among the people in the American market, it started coming under the police’s radar. Mainly because the US Market started becoming primarily responsible for the huge cash flow of the US dollars into Columbia.
Thus, the Americans decided to send over a task force from DEA straight up to Columbia to dig deeper into the issue. Murphy gets corroborated with Javier Pena. The whole objective to Murphy was to work with the Columbian authorities, to eventually found out the culprit behind the high buy and sell, and accordingly put an end to the inflow of cocaine in the United States too.

Season Recap: Season 2 starts right where Season 1 left off, and the blending of events pan out so perfectly that the season becomes a spectacular hit. The soldiers find Pablo Escobar and his important men around him, outside the ‘La Catedral’ jail but are too scared to arrest him, and thus they chicken out.
Elsewhere, in the embassy in the United States, they send a new ambassador to bring a brand new CIA into the main picture. Initially, in the beginning, there’s only but merely small to no changes for Pablo Escobar, as he was continuing to be loyal to his cartel.
However, the same loyalty that he was fiercely devoting was something that started slipping slowly and slowly, since he started needed more resources and time. More resources and time to hid from the government, to still keep his whole illegal business undercover.
One of his tricks that he used to apply to prevent being seen by the cops was to ride in and around town in the trunk of a taxi cab (ow!). When he did so, he would make use of young lookouts to monitor the movements and whereabouts of the cops and report the same to him, accordingly.
One of his first coping and defence mechanisms to keep his identity hidden from the cops was a simple one. He, to be honest, quite easily got used to, to his new life. All he did was provide money to the community, and mercilessly, ruthlessly killed anyone who tried to break free from his empire.
This led to huge confrontations and ruthless fights. Pablo Escobar and the Columbian police force constantly were seen at an edge, fighting each other and engaging in ruthless battles. All of this started contributing to the high tension, stress, and unrest in Columbia which started becoming too hard to handle for people.
Tables turn when there forms a mutiny against Pablo Escobar, and this time not by the policemen anymore. Every person he ever exiled from his empire, every ousted member to exist out there who was thrown out or met with injustice at the Cali cartel decided to join hands and form an alliance against Escobar.
And they weren’t alone, they were also backed by the CIA-supported anti-communist parliamentary gang too. The catch here is that Agent Pena secretly worked with this group too, and was chiefly responsible for killing people in Pablo’s organization and undertake responsibility for the same, as “Los Pepes.”
But Escobar didn’t see the doom coming his way. Two of his cartels get captured, and consequently, both of them decide to betray him too. Once that happens, Pablo Escobar takes to his feet and goes for a run. He and his loyal bodyguard take shelter in a safe house, which is where he also celebrates his forty-fourth birthday.
Pablo tries to communicate with his family members, to speak to them one last time but the police track him down successfully, thanks to radio triangulation, and kind of corner him on the rooftop.
Pablo gets shot twice by the cops, and all his chances (which were still there, but slim) of surviving gets vanquished when one of them straight up executes him, making sure he doesn’t live to see the light of day.
They kill him brutally, especially the Columbian cop Trujillo while chanting “Viva Columbia” altogether. Escobar’s beloved wife Tata seeks help from the Cali cartel to help her escape the United States and flee to a new country.
Meanwhile, Pena comes back to the United States expecting of being admonished by the disciplinary wing for his involvement in Los Pepes. However, that doesn’t happen, much to his surprise. He gets instead asked to provide intelligence against the Cali cartel, which hints that he will be involved in the DEA further.

Season Recap: Season 3 continues as the DEA now hunts for the Cali Cartel leaders who continue Pablo Escobar’s legacy even further. Even with Escobar dead and gone, the business somehow keeps booming and expanding, making the DEA raise its eyebrows. But the tables turn when the leader of Cali Carten, Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela announces that they would be shifting to legal business very soon.
Cali Cartel’s branch in New York gets supervised by José “Chepe” Santacruz-Londoño, who actually has a pseudonym Victor Crespo, a name he goes around by. He hunts gets hold of a Dominican group in Queens when he gets to know that they are buying ether to trigger cocaine productions.
An explosion occurs in the lab, prompting Manuel De Dios Unane to investigator further into the matter. When he comes across Chepe, the latter asks him to support him to achieve his American dream, which Chepe refuses and thus gets killed by him.
Elsewhere, Feistl and Van Ness continue their investigation, starting from raiding a Chilean bank but to no avail. They then proceed to dig deeper by raiding a house the following day where Gilberto was hiding and throw him into jail. Post this incident, Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela takes over as the head of the cartel and hides Pallomari and his family in a safe house.
Meanwhile, Pena is on an investigation spree trying to dig out the dirt in the cartel’s money laundering business. The operations were led by Franklin Jurado, who also happened to be a Columbian banker. Pena arranges a meeting with Jurado’s wife Christina but fails to bag her support in helping him arrest Jurado. She gets kidnapped and rescued by Pena later, but people get scared that Jurado might testify against her, and thus, the Cali Cartel kills him in prison.
The Columbian police manage to entrust their presence with strict rules, regulations, and investigations. The Cali Carten begins to weaken in terms of power for the same reason. This takes a much worse turn when an inside of the Cali Cartel, Jorge Salcedo, betrays their trust and becomes an informant for the DEA.
In the Cali Fair, Salcedo saves Miguel from being attacked, which makes Miguel promote Salcedo the security complete oblivious of the fact that Salcedo was secretly working for the DEA.
Salcedo informs Var Ness and Feistl about Miguel’s whereabouts, but Pena insists that they carry out the whole thing legally. After a long search and labour-intensive process, they find a wall which had a huge gap where they thought Miguel might be hiding, inside the hollow. They start to break the wall down, just in time for the Cali Attorney General to walk in and call it illegal.
David and Miguel start to suspect Salcedo and his sidekick, Enrique and that was only obvious since Miguel just survived a near-death situation. They bring Enrique in and begin interrogating him, to bring out more information. Threatened, Enrique tells them that Salcedo is a secret informant who was been tipping the DEA about Miguel’s whereabouts.
However, soon, pager goes off in Enrique’s pocket which makes Miquel and David kill Enrique. They still stay suspicious about Salcedo.
Salcedo discloses about Miguel’s location ye again, to the DEA. He plans out and tells them that he would convince Miguel to move to a safer location, and the DEA can arrest him during transportation. Meanwhile, before the plan pans out, David gets hold of a video proof of Salcedo walking into Ness and Fiestl’s office.
Salcedo gets almost killed by Miguel, but there is a raid and Salcedo flees just in time. Miquel gets arrested, and Pacho confesses and surrenders to the police as well. In the end, Salcedo and Pallomari testify against it all and attain immunity for themselves. Using Netflix you can also download narcos in 2020.
